On Wednesday, February 17th, Wythe Cinema is proud to host NO FILTER SCREENING SERIES as they present BIG AL: A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF THE REVEREND AL SHARPTON (1991).

In August of 1989, a young black man, Yusef Hawkins, was murdered by a white mob in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. This made-for-television documentary focuses its lens on the voice of the black community during this turbulent time, the REVEREND AL SHARPTON. Days after the perpetrators received a lenient sentence, Reverend Sharpton leads a protest march through Bensonhurst, the outcome of which is shocking. Filmmaker STEPHEN WALKER has crafted an unflinching portrait of an early Al Sharpton, while capturing a raw, ugly moment in New York City history during a time of great racial strife. (Run time: 52 mins)

*Reverend Sharpton will be in attendance for a post-film discussion with New York Times reporter ALAN FEUER.

NO FILTER is a quarterly screening series at the WYTHE HOTEL focusing on rare films about divisive public figures. The series is proudly sponsored by FOUR ROSES BOURBON.
