We are so pleased to present our next Cinema Series Residency Awardee, Grant Cutler, who will be screening his experimental film Disappearing. The film is the result of a collaborative project between composer Grant Cutler and 15 diverse filmmakers, animators, cinematographers, documentarians and visual artists. For Disappearing, each artist selected a song from an album of experimental compositions to use as a reverse score. Each filmmaker had only two guidelines when making their films: to focus on a moment of simultaneous creation and dissolution, and to include an element of improvisation.
Disappearing will be released as an album on Innova Recordings in early 2020.
Grant Cutler (b. 1983) is a composer and interdisciplinary artist whose work incorporates sound, photography, video, book-arts, and emerging technologies. Over the last decade, he has scored award-winning films and plays, made work commissioned by Abraham Cruzvillegas, performed inside a James Turrell sculpture, shared stages with world-renowned artists including Ólafur Arnalds and Isabel Allende, and installed quadraphonic sound environments in Manhattan galleries. Cutler’s recent work takes form in multichannel sound installations, experimental composition, generative websites, and music for film, exploring the profound effects of engaging in deep silence, the entropic nature of memory, and exposing the mystical in the quotidian.
